Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death world-wide and is usually diagnosed at a late stage, underlying its poor prognosis.

Research

Our research is focussed on developing a comprehensive lung cancer control strategy integrating smoking cessation, risk assessment, early detection, chemoprevention, diagnosis, treatment and surveillance.

We are currently enrolling participants to take part in studies using breath sampling to detect cancer. If you are interested in participating please call 604-675-8088.

Care

Diagnosing lung cancer at an early stage greatly increases the chance for a cure. Lung cancer screening saves lives by finding lung cancer at an early and potentially curable stage. British Columbia is the first Province in Canada to create a publicly funded lung cancer screening program. Our International lung screening trial Led by Dr. Stephen Lam contributed important knowledge to create the screening program here in BC. We also led the development of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) Guidance Paper on Management of Screening low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) Detected Lung Nodules, and this pathway is followed in our Provincial screening program. Ask your respirologist or family doctor if you are eligible for lung cancer screening.
